GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS
I don’t want to go through the motions
I don’t want to go one more day

I don’t want to spend my whole life asking
What if I had given everything
Instead of going through the motions
These lyrics by Matthew West linger in my mind as I struggle with people just going through the motions of Christianity. It’s not about religion, it’s about relationship with God. If you were to change the question to “are you a follower of Jesus Christ” instead of “are you a Christian”, I’m certain that the answers would not be consistent. I guess the fact that people aren’t verbally denying that Christ exists is a good place to start but even the demons believed and they trembled. It’s more than just believing that God exists and being a nice person. Dig a little deeper. Do a little studying on your own. Don’t expect the person at the pulpit, the tv, the critics or the fancy books to give you all the answers. Examine the Bible thoroughly and prayerfully consider any lackluster attitude you may have towards your level of dedication to Christ. He doesn’t want robots with empty performances…. He wants a relationship with you! Yes YOU! Don’t be prideful. If you’re not sure where to start, go ask someone that you think has a deeper understanding than you. Hopefully they will disciple you…
