DO YOUR JOB...WITH EXCELLENCE

“DO YOUR JOB…WITH EXCELLENCE”

Do you ever catch yourself saying, “I wish people would just do their job”?  The lawyers, the doctors, the gas station toilet cleaner guy, those making my food at a restaurant, co-workers, pastors, leaders, customer service departments, mechanics, politicians, parents….oh…and us!  We’ve become a culture of “good enough” and it snowballs through the generations as we get more and more slack.  There are companies that pay QA people for the sole purpose of checking behind those that should have done their job right in the first place.  Don’t get me wrong, we’re all human and capable of making mistakes but it should be the exception and not the norm.  I like the quote, “We’re all entitled to stupid moments, but some people abuse them”!  Unfortunately we laugh at this but it’s sooooo true!

There are many reasons why people are the way they are ranging from laziness to bitterness to unappreciated to incapable to untrained...etc.  Colossians 3:23-24 states, “Whatever you do, work at it with your whole heart, as working for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”  At the end of the day we have to answer to God for what we do or don’t do.  There will be accountability whether you choose it or not.

We often take our worldly lackluster mentality into Kingdom business as well.  We aren’t willing to go the extra step to give God excellence in our work through service, giving, investing, discipling, teaching, preaching and anything else ending in –ing!  This ain’t right!  I believe we’re set apart to be different than everyone else in a way that would challenge others to try to be more like us as we follow Christ.  What kind of example are you setting for your co-workers, children, friends or anyone else in your sphere of influence?  Step it up a notch!  Whatever you feel you’ve been called to do, I challenge you to “do your job…with excellence”!
