“BOOYAH.…ATTITUDE”
So as I’m running my 3.1 mile (5K) exercise/training/rehabilitation routine this morning, I find myself at the 1 mile marker saying “oh crap, I’m tired and hurting and it’s only been a mile”. And then I heard the voice in my head say, “BOOYAH….negative ATTITUDE”. The commentary in my head went something like this: “Instead of having a negative attitude, why not try a positive attitude and perception like “sweet, I’ve been blessed enough to run an entire mile… and I’m still going”. For those that know PT, I even pictured and heard Pastor Tom Roberts saying “it’s too hard” in a whiney voice…..
Many times we mentally defeat ourselves before we even give ourselves a chance. It took me about a half mile to get over my attitude and my time was steadily getting worse. My mental attitude even affected my physical performance. It happens! Once I gathered myself together and changed my attitude/perspective, I started quoting things like “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13, and “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” Jeremiah 29:11 and “..I will run with patience the race that is set before me…” Hebrews 12:1. I started claiming victory over everything I could think of in the name of Jesus including the race that I was in.
I actually finished with a pretty good time despite my attitude breakdown before the mid-point.
It’s amazing how God gives us a good check (like a hockey check) sometimes to get us out of a funk! It’s usually stuff we already know… it’s just a friendly reminder!!!
Try utilizing a positive attitude and perspective and see if your outcome doesn’t change! Some things may literally change, and sometimes you might just be able to find the good in a bad situation!!!
BOOYAH….ATTITUDE!!!
